The Great Conjunction of 1663

The translation of a fragment from the book by Raphael Gütner Fundamentalis eaqvé astronomica et astrologica doctrina de conjunctionibus magnis printed in Chemnitz in 1663. This fragment relates to the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in 1663 AD:

The great conjunction of 1663

And besides, what this latest great conjunction can show us. At least, what we can see through the interpretations. Since indeed this judgement requires and puts before itself an evidence, we must erect the chart of this great conjunction. And it is not for the moment when it happens, because no one astronomer can determine it exactly from the ephemeris, and this is not all there is to it, but diligent observation and continual experience can attest that the aspects of six superior planets can bring its effects in this sublunary world through the application or co-aspect of the Moon. And therefore we determine the chart for the nearest aspect of the Moon to the conjunct planets, which for that moment is the dexter trine, that the prefaced figure of the sky is brightly manifest.

The Prognostic

  1. Jupiter, beneficial by its nature, is the principal significator of this conjunction and the lord of XI, XII and II, and therefore in general it promises peace, free practice of religion, riches, glory, the prospering Republic, and health; and in particular, faithful friends, favour of sovereigns, privileges, discharge of prisoners, liberation from misfortunes, easy labor for women, and augmentation of strengths in work and undertakings.
  2. Mars observing the conjunction by trine from the VII house, denotes the rest from battles, defence of the region, assiduity of the officials, grace of the powers, and  happy marriage for females.
  3. Venus in the Jupiterian sign close to the conjunct planets notes the graceful conversation with maidens and women, marriage, happiness, grace, and prolific marriage.
  4. The Moon applying to the conjunct planets with trine from the VII house arranges eminent luck for the common people; but mostly designates many weddings, profitable trade, and peaceful marriage with extreme fertility.
